HDD Jumper verspricht mehr speicher
ich habe hier eine HD aus einem Älteren Computer:
Was für folgen kann es haben, wenn ich die HD mit diesem Jumper verwende?
(Irgend ein Nachteil muss es doch haben)
Seagate U6 Model ST320410A
diese ist mit 20GB Beschriftet sie hat jedoch einen Jumper, bei dem steht:Limit capacity to 32 Gbytes
Was ich daran allerdings komisch finde ist: wieso sollte man eine HD mit gedrosseltem Speicher verwenden?Was für folgen kann es haben, wenn ich die HD mit diesem Jumper verwende?
(Irgend ein Nachteil muss es doch haben)
Mein System:
ich weiss das mag sich komisch anhören. Aber wenn man halt keine Ahnung davon hat...

... wenn Du win98/win3.1 oder älter benutzt, denn diese Versionen können keine größeren Partitionen ansprechen.

Es gab immer so luste Begrenzungen in älteren Betriebssystemen oder BIOSen,
640KB
1MB
16MB
2GB
32GB
etc.
Wenn man nun einen Computer hatte der nur 32GB ansprechen konnte und eine 40GB Festplatte... konnte man diese gar nicht verwenden.
Mit dem Jumper konnte man nun wenigstens die 32GB nutzen.
Gibt es Heute auch noch, aber meist in Software.

So... ich fummel hier noch schnell mein Array fertig und geh ins Bed.

Deine Platte hat sowieso nur 20GByte.

Some older computers may “hang” at startup if their BIOS detects a hard
drive that has values greater than either 4,092 (2.1 Gbytes) cylinders or
approximately 32 Gbytes. To eliminate this problem, the drive includes
a capacity-limiting jumper that sets the drive’s default translation geometry
to 4,092 cylinders for model ST320410A and limits the drive’s capacity
to 2.1 Gbytes. The ST380020A, ST360020A and the ST340810A are
limited to 32 Gbytes when the alternate capacity jumper is used. To
realize the full capacity of the drive, you can use third-party software
such as DiscWizard or Disk Manager.
If the alternate capacity jumper is used on drives under 32 Gbytes, the
drive’s true LBAs are found in ID words 60 and 61. On larger-capacity
drives, the alternate capacity jumper “freezes” words 60 and 61 at a value
below the problem barrier point. The ATA Set Max command is used to
“unfreeze” and fill the real values in words 60 and 61 after the command
is issued.
Windows 98 or newer versions are needed to support drives with
capacities greater than 32 Gbytes

Nur wird er dir nicht viel nützen. Die haben sicher für mehere Modelle die gleiche Platine Verwendet. Und der Jumper ist da um Platten größer 32 zu begenzen. Nicht um sie gößer zu machen
